Q. How do I know when my electrical equipment is in need of repair or replacement?

A. Sometimes your equipment may need to be replaced if the age, size & brand are outdated & no longer safely protect your home, property or life from the risk of fire or electric shock. Your homes electrical system is comprised of components that eventually wear out, much like a set of tires. When your electrical system ages, equipment becomes worn and falls behind changing technology demands. Just like a tire, panels, breakers, lights, receptacles and other devices have a predicted life span. Only when a tire is old, you can easily look and determine if its time for a new one, if it has no tread or if its dry rotted and cracked, its time. Electrical systems need to be inspected by a trained professional because failures happen from the inside out.

Q. What brand of panels have known problems and         should be replaced?

A.        Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Sylvania, and GTE panels. These panels            should have labels with the brand listed or can be identified by the            shape and color of the breakers or the arrangement of the            breakers. If you cannot determine the brand you have and would            like to have it inspected, please call us and we will help.

Electrical Service Entrance, Panel Repair & Replacement

Federal Pacific panel. These panels have a horrible reputation for safety issues among electricians and home inspectors. Federal Pacific breakers usually have an orange handle on the breakers.

Zinsco, Sylvania and GTE are the brand names that have appeared on panels of this design. Breaker handles are color coded to distinguish between breaker sizes. GTE was the last manufacture of this panel design and they were installed into the mid to late 80’s.

We install electrical service panels and equipment manufactured by Cutler Hammer, Square D, and Murray-Siemens. We can service and repair most other brands as well. We strongly recommend replacement of any FPE, Sylvania and Zinsco equipment with new equipment that meets the current standards for safety and design.
